These preliminary notes summarize the first discussions by the joint design/infrastructure/communications teams, July 1 - July 17, 1997. They're meant to lay out some of the responsibilities and problem areas for the people responsible for architecting a social and technological system to support the SLL-CIV's new course, "The Word and the World."

Some components are better understood than others, but we have many outstanding questions, one of which is to understand what can be deferred and what needs to be settled now. Some opinions represent emergent concensus, but it'd be wise to treat that these slides as seeds, rather than fruit.
