TGarden production phasing 2001

Phase 1 of the TGarden project finished in December 2000, after an evaluation of the research reports from the prototyping phase that lasted from March to November 2000. Within this 1 year period the project was publically tested at SIGGRAPH 2000 (New Orleans, July 2000) and the Mediaterra festival (Athens, Greece, November 2000).

In these first prototypes, basic gesture and sound ideas were explored with two visitors at a time to the environment. Phase 02 began with a workshop for designers and developers in February-March 2001 at the invitation of the Banff Center for the Arts (Media Arts division) in Canada.

The purpose of this workshop was to introduce mathematical and computer science vocabularies as a way for the multidisciplinary team to build a higher level description language and to specify design, technical architectural and production documents for TGarden production 2001.

Phase 2 will be developed as a work-in-progress presentation at the 2001 Ars Electronica Festival and as a fuller scale work in Rotterdam (as part of V2/Rotterdam 2001 European Cultural Capital of the Year presentations) with a larger number of participants and more complex interaction scenarios.

The duration of Phase 02 will last from March 2001 through December 2001. The project will continue in 2002-2003, with Phase 03, in an expanded network of European, North American and Australian partners from universities, industry, cultural and foundation settings.
